ESL Deals is an auction-based marketplace for English and other courses where students can bargain for the best price. Our website allows students to request a price for a course where schools can compete to offer the best deal (Reverse Auction) and for schools to post courses that students can bid on (Ascending Bid Auction). ESL Deals also offers classified ads where services like English tutoring and goods like home furnishings can be offered for sale.
An empty seat in an ESL classroom is similar to an empty seat on an airliner. Just as an empty seat on a flight becomes worthless to the airline once the airplane leaves the gate, an empty seat in a classroom is worthless to the school once the course begins. Schools are better off selling their empty seats for whatever price they can get rather than have empty seats in the classroom. An auction is the most powerful way to achieve flexibility in pricing as it allows buyers and sellers to determine the current market price for a course in real time.
Ask for a Deal is a reverse auction where schools compete to offer you the best deal. You select the country and region or city where you wish to study, the type of course you would like to take and the dates you want to study for. Schools that match your request are notified that you are requesting a course and will make you an offer. You can select the school offering the lowest price, the best value, the one with the best reputation rating or none at all if no offers meet your requirements.
Bid for a Deal is an auction similar to eBay where English or other courses are auctioned off to the highest bidder. You can also book the a course at the "Book It Now" price or negotiate a deal with "Make an Offer".
Shop for a Deal is our Classified Ads site where student related goods and services are offered for sale. Shop here if you're looking for an English tutor, an apartment to share, a roommate or goods and services for sale. If you've finished your course and are going home, this is the place to sell the stuff you can't take with you.
If you accept an offer or are the successful bidder in an auction (including with Book It Now and Make an Offer) you pay a buyer's commission on the sale price (ie in addition to the sale price). The commission is 15% for courses costing less than $1,000.00 and decreases for courses costing over $1,000.00. If you book a course through an agency in your home country the price you pay will include an agents' commission averaging 25% to 30%. Schools offering courses through ESL Deals will take the lower commission paid through ESL deals into account in the price they offer you.
